Ambien (generic name zolpidem) is a recipe drug for insomnia. According to Goodrx, it is intended for short -term use.

“Zolpidem can cause daytime drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, and brain activity slowed, especially when combined with alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids or tricepressants.”

Dr. Marc Siegel, the main medical analyst of Fox News, agreed that Ambien can cause confusion, hallucinations or experiences outside the body.

“Ambien is not a great drug for the elderly for these reasons,” said Siegel, who did not treat Biden, in Fox News Digital.

However, the doctor continued: “We do not have a verifiable source to be sure that this is true about the Ambien … it could have been taking anything.”

Siegel also said that Ambien is not a sedative and, if Biden took it last night, he should have been worn at the time of debate.

“And taking -just before the debate makes no sense, no doctor would recommend it,” said Siegel.

Dr. Michaela Robbins, a board -certified nurse in New York and founder of East X West Med, a hormonal and longevity practice, has not been involved in Biden’s care, but has commented on the possible role of Ambien in his alleged condition.

“It is difficult to say -without providing a complete medical evaluation, but generally the use of Ambien can absolutely cause the type of confusion that Biden seemed to experiment,” she told Fox News Digital.

“Studies have suggested that even short -term use can cause delirium and confusion and long -term use has been associated with an increase in risk of dementia and cognitive decrease, especially in the geriatric population.”

“It is less likely to cause this type of impact on a younger and younger individual, but for the age of Biden, the confusion induced by the medication is common, especially with sedatives,” he added.

In general, Robbins said, Ambien is recognized as a “problematic and inappropriate drug” when prescribed to the elderly.

“Ambien can be a really dangerous drug in older adults, especially when or if it is combined with other medicines,” he said.

“For someone biden, medication induced confusion is common, especially with sedatives.”

Each time the Ambien is prescribed, it is recommended that the patient receive a thorough medical assessment and discuss the advantages and consistency with a doctor.

“From a longevity perspective, I think there are better interventions to prevent or treat insomnia that have less health risks and that they have less mental deterioration,” Robbins advised.
